How health insurance works in Mississippi
Mississippi does not run its own exchange — residents buy ACA Marketplace coverage through the federal HealthCare.gov platform. Open enrollment generally runs from November 1 through mid-January, with exact dates set each year by the federal government. Outside that window you need a qualifying life event such as losing job-based coverage, moving, marrying, or having a child.
Mississippi has not expanded Medicaid, which creates a coverage gap for adults whose income falls below the subsidy threshold but above the state's narrow Medicaid limits. Getting your income estimate right is therefore more consequential here than in expansion states, and it is the first thing Samuel reviews with you.
